La Pilita Museum is Closed for the Summer

New Season Begins August 31, 2010

PERMANENT EXHIBIT:    A treasured collection of historic photographs are installed on the north side of the gallery.  They include the lakes at Carrillo Gardens , the celebrations in Elysian Grove, a piece of forgotten track from a mule-drawn trolley and some of the faces from a long-gone era.
GUIDEBOOK:    La Pilita Museum presents the guidebook: "A Walk through Time, Place and Story".  This handy guide book (14 pp)  combines historic fact with oral histories and folklore so visitors can fully experience this "rincon del barrio".     The guide is perfect for tourists as well as classroom teachers who wish to have their students "get a feel" for the late 1800’s early 1900’s in Tucson .  Each site is within two blocks of the museum.  The guide was funded by an AZ Humanities Foundation Grant with the guidance of historians and elders.   Available in September at the Museum for $3.00 a copy and free at this web-site.

La Pilita Museum ’s 10th Anniversary Quilt Local artisan, Linda McKittrick, created this one-of-a-kind quilt in honor of La Pilita’s 10-year anniversary. Linda uses free motion quilting, foil paint, raw edge appliqué and three-dimensional effects.
Raffle tickets may be purchased at the museum for $10 each, or six tickets for $40. The quilt will be on display in the museum gallery until October. A winning raffle ticket will be drawn at the annual Silent Auction in October 2010.

Gourd'n Garden Show ~ April 13 - 24

SATURDAY SALE AND AUCTION - April 17, 2009 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Chicago had its painted cows, Santa Fe has its painted ponies. This tiny museum has its painted gourds! La Pilita Museum is getting a helping hand from artists ... all kinds of artists.

Here’s an event that will drive you 'out of your gourd' and give you a fun Saturday outing. Artist friends of La Pilita Museum have taken the gourd challenge! A variety of artists are allowing themselves to be inspired by the shape, size, and heart of the southwestern gourd. Art teachers, professional graphic designers, members of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild, landscape architects, attorneys, and other crafty people have accepted t he challenge. The results will be as varied and interesting as the multi-shaped gourds can allow. Buy gourds, bid on gourds, or make one of your own in the class at 11 am.

At the same time the museum is selling a variety of plants and pottery containers perfect for spring time gardening. Gourd seeds and wildflower seeds harvested by the La Pilita Youth Docents will also be for sale.

This event is the museum’s spring fundraiser and is timed just right for people to find a unique Mother’s Day gift and help a non-profit preserve a special part of Tucson heritage.
