Artes Pica Dientes: original artwork of Jose Robles ~ February 2 - 12

Jose H. Robles has a most unusual way to relax from his hectic work schedule.

The first thing to explain - "artes pica dientes" - is literally Jose Robles’ technique for painting. He applies the paint with a toothpick (pica diente). He started using that tool to paint pottery for his own garden, and the toothpick worked well to build up the paint to imitate the effect of mosaic work.

Jose is a Douglas, AZ native and attended the University of Arizona and the Golden Gate Law School . His only art class was in 7th grade. He received a 'C' because he broke his ceramic project when he touched it, in spite of and because of, a warning from his teacher to leave it alone.

Jose resides in Tucson . He is a strong supporter of the museum and has donated pieces to several fundraisers. His generous spirit and unique art form make this exhibit a special experience to enjoy.
