| La Pilita Museum works to preserve the history of Barrio Viejo and early Tucson through Oral Histories. The museum is home to over one hundred oral history interviews. Interviewees donate their stories and photos so others may have a more accurate view of early life in Tucson . These stories and pictures are presented on panels. By reading these very personal accounts, one may get a feeling of what it was like fifty years ago in Barrio Viejo-- and for some what it was like to have your home demolished for urban renewal. | ![]() boys and their cars |

Marcos (Arthur) Quiñones describes his experience of watching the destruction of his home in 1968 during urban renewal. His home was located where the TCC now stands. "Actually all I have are negative thoughts of urban renewal. I believe the initial amount they gave my mother was $8122. It wasn’t nearly enough to pay for the new home." His story and several others bring this event to life. |
